Using noook play
How do I connect noook discs to each other?
Hold two discs flat, one in each hand. Slide the edge of one disc into the gap that runs all the way around the perimeter of the other. Only one surface of each disc should sit inside the gap; if both do, the discs won't grip properly.
Once you've got the technique, you can chain discs in a line or branch multiple discs off a single one. Fresh discs are stiff, so it takes a little patience at first.
How do I make corners and 3D shapes?
Each disc has a hinge running across its centre. Bend the disc along this hinge to create a corner. The angle can vary, which means you can build triangles, squares, rectangles, arches and more. The more you combine angled discs, the more complex the shapes become.
How big can I build?
Each noook disc is roughly the size of a dinner plate. A small number of discs can become a structure that fills a room. With a Family Pack (50 discs) you can build a den big enough for a child to crawl inside. With a Bumper Pack (62 discs) you can go much further.

Do you have video guides?
Yes. Build videos are available on our YouTube channel and across our social media channels. Every regular pack also includes a printed 'how to noook' guide. If you have a specific question, email us at howto@noookplay.com.
Regular packs means Starter, Family and Bumper Packs. Top-Up and Expansion Packs do not include a guide.
Caring for your discs
How do I store my noook discs?
Store your discs face down and flat in the storage box after each play session. Stacking them on their sides can cause warping. Starter, Family and Bumper Packs each include a dedicated storage box.
Some of my discs are splaying. What do I do?
Some splaying is normal after a lot of play. The discs hold together through friction, and that changes over time with use.
- Mild splaying: store the affected discs at the bottom of the stack in the storage box. The weight of the discs above will correct them.
- More pronounced splaying: place the discs flat under a heavy object (a large book or a heavy pot) overnight.
A disc feels floppy at the hinge. Is it broken?
No. The hinge is designed to loosen with repeated bending so you can make 3D shapes. If you need a disc to be rigid (for a flat surface, for example), lock it in place by connecting another disc across its hinge at a right angle.
The edges of some discs are beginning to fray. What can I do?
Some fraying at the edges is normal after extended use. Dampen your thumb and press firmly along the fraying edge to flatten the outer layer back down. If some discs are looking tired, our Top-Up Pack and Expansion Pack let you replace them without buying a full kit.
Robustness and safety
What is noook play made from? Is it cardboard?
It is not cardboard. noook play discs are made from engineered heavy-duty board — an industrially engineered material, not standard packaging board. Each disc is formed under more than 250 tonnes of pressure and bonded with a safe adhesive. The outer layer is treated with a food-grade wax coating that resists spills and sticky fingers. Under normal play conditions, discs withstand extended use. If a disc tears under normal play, contact us and we will look into it.
Is noook play waterproof?
It isn't fully waterproof, but it is water-resistant. The food-grade wax coating on each disc resists spills, sticky fingers and minor splashes. If a disc gets wet, shake off the excess water and wipe with a clean cloth.
Will the discs tear?
It's very unlikely. The central hinge is designed to be bent thousands of times. Each disc is made by bonding two layers of engineered heavy-duty board with a strong, safe adhesive. Under normal play conditions, discs will withstand a great deal of use.
If a disc does tear under normal play, contact us and we'll look into it.
Is noook play safe to chew?
Yes. noook play is tested against the most stringent toy safety standards and is CE and UKCA marked. Chewing won't harm anyone, though it won't help with the build.
Is there a risk of paper cuts?
It's very unlikely. Each layer of the engineered heavy-duty board is tightly bonded, and edges become more rounded with use.
